Thanks to the Great Firewall's valiant effort in shielding Chinese citizens from treasonous and morally degenerative Web sites like Xanga, I can't access my old blog and have to start a new one just for when I'm in the motherland. Say what you will about the bureaucracy, but officials here have got their priorities straight. They know that minds of upstanding Chinese youths would be beyond saving once they're infected with sHiFtANiTiS and taste the forbidden fruit that is eProps. What that says about me as a committed Xanga user, I'm not sure.

For those who don't know, I've been hauling my unemployed self across China since the beginning of July. I'm not going to recount my day-to-day travels up to this point, but I will try to relate some of my observations about China, the Olympics, and food poisoning, the last of which I now know very intimately.

My itinerary for summer '08:

Beijing: 7/1 - 7/8
Xi'an: 7/9 - 7/11
Urumqi & surrounding areas: 7/11 - 7/18
Kashgar: 7/18 - 7/24
Shanghai: 7/24 - 8/4
Beijing: 8/4 - 8/25ish
Shanghai: 8/25ish - 8/30
Tokyo: 8/30 - 9/8
Irvine: 9/8 -
